Hiccups Cure
Follow this procedure and you WILL stop ANY hiccups.
This takes a little discipline and you will experience some minor discomfort, but it
will work. The whole procedure should take around two minutes.
- Exhale fully and hold your breath until panic starts to set in.
- Take a small gulp of air, only enough to relieve the panic feeling.
- Hold your breath until the panic feeling returns.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 until your lungs are full.
- Your hiccups are now gone unless you cheated.
Disclaimer: I am an engineer, not a doctor. The procedure above is the result
of analyzing the multitude of folklore solutions like drinking a glass of water
without breathing, or breathing into a paper bag. It is my theory that hiccups are
the symptom of a blood gas imbalance, too much O2 relative to CO2. All of the
folklore solutions address this, but my procedure is quicker, more certain, and
does not require any props.
