MACHETE
MACHETE is a 30 pound robot build for sumo competition. It is
driven by two EV Warrior motors with a 3.2:1 chain reduction to 3"
Colsons. Control is via two Victor 883 ESCs, an Ohmark mixer, and
an Airtronics PCM radio. The battery is a 12V Hawker Genesis SLA.
The polycarbonate armor would not be sufficient for arena combat,
but works well for sumo. MACHETE won the round robin, but lost
to Ti-Tan in the finals at the 2004 Robot Battles in Denver, and just
out of the finals at the 2004 Robot Battles in Atlanta. It won the 30
pound Battle Royale in Atlanta which included a nice plaque for my
collection.
It is a hoot to drive and can be wheelied to a vertical position and
spun like this. Be patient, this AVI file loads slowly.
Machete competed at the Stellarcon Robot Battles Greensboro in
2005 and finished first in the finals against Xhilarating Impax, the 8th
rated 30 pounder in the nation.
